I feel so bad for poor Lowla, her mange seems to be getting worse instead of
better. They gave her two more vaccines when I took her in to be diagnosed for
the mange and I think those are making it even harder for her immune system to
respond and fight off the mites. I think I'm going to switch her food too, even
though the stuff I'm feeding her isn't awful, there are better things out there.
I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried this mange cure?
It seems promising, I feel bad because I gave her chemicals for the fleas
(Advantage, it's working great, she has almost no fleas now) and she got the
vaccines and now this goopy stuff for her mange. And now that her mange is
spreading, I'm really worried. Should I try this solution or just wait it out?
She seems happy and healthy otherwise.
I had a really upsetting experience at the vet and I will not be going back to
that one. I'm not sure I want to expose her to a dip. I've read that they're
really harsh. I don't think it's bad enough yet to warrant that. I'm hoping when
she recovers from the vaccines, her immune system will kick into gear and help
fight the mange. She has another appointment in a few weeks for another booster
shot but I think I'll just take her to another vet and have them assess how she
is doing and reccomend a treatment.
don't know if I would have vac'd a dog in the middle of a mange outbreak, mmmmm.
Tho the dips can be harsh, they definately did the trick with mine.
Does she have demodectic or sarcoptic? Mine had sarcoptic, which can be
contagious (tho the mites prefer animals to people)
When one of mine had demodectic, a small area on the face, I did no dips, but
the vet gave me a "scrub" that I used on the affected areas which helped. This
was years ago so I can't remember what the name of it was.
maybe check around for another vet, have her accessed, and see if they can
recommend something you can use on her..
it's demodectic mange. Where she is affected its not like huge obvious baldness.
The hair is just very thinned out and where I think it's spreading it's little
spots of thinning hair. It doesn't seem severe yet, just gradually more thinning
spots showing up. None of it is red or infected nor does she scratch at it. I'm
going to take her to another vet in a few weeks and if she hasn't improved then
hopefully they'll reccomend something. She doesn't seem to be bothered, so I
dunno. I guess I'm just worrying too much. Although yesterday she did sit in an
ant pile and got bit 15-20 times :-( she's just a bundle of problems :-/
You should not need to dip a dog with demodectic mange. It will likely improve
on its own but she may need some antibiotics to take care of any infections that
could result from the lesions. Your best bet for treating it is Goodwinol
ointment, which you can get at your vet or at specialty pet supply stores. Not
sure if PetSmart carries it or not.
that's the exact stuff the vet gave me. It's so goopy and looks like baby puke
:-P I spread it on her big obvious spots daily, hasn't seemed to do much other
than make those spots bigger which is probably because the hairs there are
already weak and break off when I spread the stuff on. Gosh I just feel so bad
for my little pup. I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and waiting it
out :-/
Yes, those damaged hairs will break off and make the spots bigger so that's
normal. She is pretty young isn't she? It will probably take a little while for
her immune system to mature and be able to fight off the demodex. I went through
the same thing with Charlie when he was a little guy. I believe the vet also put
him on Sentinel at the same time, which also helps kill mites. It took about 6
weeks for him to really stop itching and the hair to start growing back.
I have heard that there is a newer topical treatment that is some kind of gel
peroxide or something like that. I dunno....you might google it.
share your experience with luxating patella
I would like to here peoples experiences with luxating patella. Carmen has been
diagnosed with it in both here hind legs. The joint specialist said surgery is
an option but we don't know if we want to put here through the stress of
surgery. She is 8 yrs old.
So has anybody here gone through surgery for luxating patella? |
